Jason Burke

Jason Burke is a British journalist and the author of several non-fiction books. He is the South Asia correspondent of the Guardian and the Observer newspapers. Currently based in New Delhi, he covers a wide range of social, political and cultural topics across South Asia. Burke was based in Pakistan from 1998 to 2002, reporting from Afghanistan under the Taliban and during the war of 2001. He has also worked extensively in the Middle East, reporting from Iraq before, during and after the war of 2003. He has specialised in conflict, terrorism and Islamic militancy.  He is a regular commentator on television and radio.

Burke is the author of Al-Qaeda: the True Story of Radical Islam, published in 2003, which has been described as the “best book there is” on the militant group. Burke also wrote On the Road to Kandahar: Travels through Conflict in the Islamic World and, more recently, the critically acclaimed The 9/11 Wars.
